Punk Hairstyles - How to Style

Just like fashion trends with clothing, hairstyle fashions are plentiful and always changing. Some are considered universally beautiful while others are cutting edge and done to make a statement. One of these kinds of styles is the punk hairstyle. The punk style has evolved over the past few decades and indicates not only a hairstyle but an all encompassing style of dress, body art, and cosmetology.

Punk hairstyles are created from inspiration drawn from artists, rockers, and personal influences. The wearer can tailor the look to his or her individual taste, there are no specific rules. Just go for something unruly and out of the ordinary and remember that punk style is meant to get you noticed.

Punk HairstylesHow does one choose a punk hairstyle? Focus on these three aspects: color, cut, and style. Color should be bold and bright and usually hair has to be dyed to achieve the desired effect. Popular colors are often colors that don't occur naturally; pink, blue, or green. Harsh blacks and super light white blondes are also good. Colors can also be combined or used to highlight certain areas of the hair such as bangs, a Mohawk, etc.

Punk cuts are usually on the shorter side (typically no longer than about shoulder length for both guys and girls) to allow for ease of gel based styling techniques. Popular cuts are often noticeably uneven, diagonal or choppy. Buzz cuts are also common and usually pictures or words are shaved into the hair. Cuts can also include a combination of buzzed and long hair.

Popular punk styles include the Mohawk, a vertical stripe of hair running from the forehead to the back of the skull (usually with shaved sides,) and grungy "just rolled out of bed" looks (usually the least time consuming to construct.) Depending on how much time one spends on his or her style, it can change drastically from day to day. Punk hairstyles often use lots of styling products and are harsh and stiff as opposed to flowing locks of hair. Accessories and alternate styles, like braids, can also be integrated to create a unique punk style.

In conclusion, punk style relies on many different aspects to create an image. In addition to your other fashion choices, the color, cut, and style of your hair can help you to achieve your desired look. Remember that nothing is too wild for punk style, in fact, the more outrageous, the better. Rock on!

Short Hairstyle Maintenance Tips

Your short hair needs intensive care and maintenance if you want to flaunt different kind of style. It is said that short hair is easy to handle and manage but at least some caring is needed also. Here we are going to provide some advice on the maintenance of short hair. If you have not watched a short hair stylish woman for a long time then apply the following tips on your hair and get the instant results.

1.Trim your hair: You could trim your hair within six weeks. This is because if you want to maintain the short hairstyle regular trimming is must. If your short hair becomes long then your cut will be destroyed and cannot be recognized. Regular trimming is also good for the health of the hair. It helps to cut the split and damaged hair and helps to repair the hair. For long hair also hair trimming is important for natural growth of hair. Split hair ends hampers the natural growth of hair be it long hair or be it short hair.

2.Regular shampooing: Shampooing is very important for maintaining a short hair. Like long hair short hair does not keep the natural oil of the scalp that’s why dirt gets sticky to the scalp. Hair should be cleaned on daily basis. It helps to get rid of greases and clean the hair and scalp.

3.Using less conditioner: If you have dry hair then use a conditioner but only on the ends of the hair. Not at the root of the hair. But, if you have normal hair then avoid conditioner. Using conditioner on the scalp makes your scalp greasy. Your hair may be dry and unmanageable then using a conditioner is a smart choice.

4.Make your hair volumed: Your hair id thin and fine? Don’t mind. Solution is here. Use some good volumizer on to the root of the damp and dry hair before blow-drying. Volumed and bouncy hair criteria, which make your hair praiseworthy and attractive. For thin and fine short hair, using this product is an intelligent option.

5.Use your blow dryer: You may use your blow dryer but the thing that should be kept in mind is that using it too much can damage the hair texture. And for the short hair it would be more disastrous. Only use a dryer until it is a little bit of damp and wet. And then dry it normally. Blow-drying incessantly makes your hair dull and fuzzy.

6.Apply hair-texturing products: hairstyling tools and products like waxes; pastes and mousse can give your short hair a young, intelligent, modern look. But be careful. Do not use these kinds of products excessively. Just apply a little on your dry hair.

7.Keep your hair edges soft: short hair cut looks good with soft edges. Softly layered hair cut is good to view. Therefore, try to avoid blunt lines.

8.Experiment with colors: Though bold colors go best with short hairstyle but you can also use a lot of shades on your short hair cut. But it is always recommended to consult your hair expert before coloring your hair. Chunky blonde highlights or a rich chocolate shade looks great on short haircuts.

Medium Hairstyles - What is Popular?

Medium hairstyles are some of the easiest to deal with. They give women the versatility of long hair without all the time and effort spent to make the hair look nice.

Medium hairstyles are those that hit just below the ear to just below the shoulders. Let's look at some popular medium styles of the moment.

The Bob

The bob is a popular medium hairstyle that's been popular for many years. Call it the most timeless of the medium haircuts. Perhaps the best aspect of the bob is it can be somewhat short (chin length or even shorter) or it can be longer, hitting the shoulders.

The bob usually involves bangs (and then a straight style to the shoulders or wherever the hair hangs), or it can be all one length. Sometimes hairstylists will give no bangs, but will frame the hair around the face rather than leave it all one length.

The great aspect of the bob is its forgiveness. It works with just about any face shape, but looks particularly good on women with oval or round faces.

The Shag
The shag haircut has long been popular with women of all ages (but particularly those in their 20s and 30s). If you think of Jennifer Aniston in "Friends" and the hairstyle that made her so popular, you are picturing the shag. Of course, the medium shag is shorter than the hair that Aniston sported, but the basic styling is similar.

The shag requires a little more time and know-how than the bob, but this style flatters most facial shapes (save, perhaps, a long face) and can be quite flattering. Women like that it looks as if they spent little time on it. This style is also versatile since there are no bangs, and the hair is often long enough to be put in a ponytail or other styles.

The Curled-Out Bob

This style is somewhat a combination of the shag and the bob. It has some layering like a shag, and yet the simple styling of the bob. This style requires a large round brush for drying and then once nearly dry, the ends are turned up (either with the large round brush or even a flat brush)

This style isn't quite as versatile as the basic shag, because often it will include bangs and a few more layers. But if can be styled in several ways and thanks to the layers, it can be styled for a curly look or can be blown straight.

We hope you have gotten a good idea of some popular medium hairstyles of the moment. Either you can grow your hair into one of these styles, or you can cut your hair shorter to make it a true "medium cut".

Popular Short Hairstyle

A woman’s hair is one of the most forgiving characteristics about herself; it is one that she can easily change and redefine to invent new looks for herself and to keep reinventing new looks with time. And this is one of the few things that she can change about her own physical appearance that doesn’t take more than a few minutes to accomplish and doesn’t cost much money. In addition, the changes that a woman makes to her hair are never permanent, so even if she does not like the finished look, haircuts can always grow out and hairstyles can always be re-done. The short haircut is a very chic look that has become very fashionable among the teenagers and even older and more mature women. Some of the popular and fashionable hairstyles for short hair will be discussed herein.

One of the most popular short haircuts among teenagers and young women is the layered haircut. More and more of the younger women and teenagers alike are choosing the layered haircut over any other because it is most easy to maintain. In addition, the layered haircut is one that can be easily worn the same way for a formal event as for a casual event without being out of place – the short layered haircut can in fact be either flipped out or flipped inwards. Either effect has the same though – they are both chic and fashionable and can be adjusted to suit any event. The layered hair flipped inwards creates a more sophisticated look that some of the more mature women would prefer, whereas the flipped out hairstyle for those with short layers creates a trendy and hip look.
Another of the favorite hairstyles worn by young women and teenagers with short hair would be the bobbed haircut. This haircut can be worn with layers, bangs or highlights to create the soft but feminine touch to what would otherwise be a severe look. The bob can also be cut asymmetrical to create a hairstyle that is funky but nonetheless feminine. Another alteration of the bob haircut with a soft feminine approach is the A-line bob hairstyle; flipped inwards to create a sophisticated look with a futuristic appeal.

The mature woman however will neither go for the flipped out short hairstyle nor the A-line bobbed hairstyle. Instead she looks for a hairstyle for her hair that is conservative but not severe; trendy but not flamboyant; manageable but not plain. The short bob with a high crown and low side is ideal for the mature woman with the long thin face. This hairstyle however is softened by a side path and a simple bang that just teases over the forehead or at the side of the face. Highlights and side burns are other creative modifications that the mature woman could choose to incorporate into her short hairstyle.

Wedding Hairstyles

So you’re getting married and of course, this is the most important day of your life. You want everything to look perfect – the flowers, the invites, the dresses, the photos – but perhaps nothing is quite as important as your wedding hairstyle. As the bride, you are the focal point of the day and your wedding hairstyle must be perfect. Your wedding hairstyle will be noticed by everyone that attends this very important event. And because the wedding hairstyle you choose is so important, it is necessary that you spend some time choosing the best wedding hairstyle for you.

How to choose
The most important thing to remember when choosing a wedding hairstyle is to never lose your personal identity. While many women tend to put their hair up in a fancy up do for their big day, this may not be the best wedding hairstyle for you. Think about what you like best; up or down; flowing or big; dark or light. Think about what wedding hairstyle you would be most comfortable moving around and socializing in all day and night. What kind of wedding hairstyle best suits you and your personality?

Other factors you might want to consider when choosing your wedding hairstyle are your hair type, the style of your wedding gown, the type of veil you will be wearing, jewelry, and how your bridesmaids will be wearing their hair. You should want your wedding hairstyle to stand out from everyone else, but never be too flashy. If your gown has a low cut neckline with bare shoulders and chest exposed, you might want to opt for a long, flowing, wavy wedding hairstyle. For high necked gowns, an up do might be a better wedding hairstyle for your dress.

Other ideas for wedding hairstyles

During this overwhelming time of decision making, try to aim for sophistication and elegance when choosing your wedding hairstyle. Some classic styles of wedding hairstyles never go out of style and will always make a statement at a wedding. Up do’s that are sprayed or pinned securely in place with elegant pearl clips or tight curls at the base of the neck in an up do are striking wedding hairstyles.

For a more glamorous wedding hairstyle, wearing your hair in a topknot is a wonderful choice. This wedding hairstyle actually frames your face and will certainly draw attention to your facial features such as your eyes or lips. This wedding hairstyle is very popular for women who want to make a bold and gorgeous entrance.

For women with shorter hair, there are many options for your wedding hairstyle as well. Combing your short hair straight back with the application of mousse will create a full look. You can then take the hair and pull back smoothly, and pin down with well chosen clips. This sleek wedding hairstyle is a good option for women with very short hair. Another option for short hair wedding hairstyles is to utilize a curling iron. Delicate curls framing the face or falling just over the veil are a simple way to add glamour to your wedding hairstyle. Use decorative bobby pins or same colored bobby pins to secure your new wedding hairstyle in place.

Another simple and creative way to enhance your wedding hairstyle is by adorning your hair with jewelry or decorative hair clips, pins or wraps. For those simple wedding hairstyles, one well placed hair clip can create the most beautiful look. Accessories such as lace bows or ribbons can take an ordinary wedding hairstyle and turn it into an unforgettable wedding hairstyle. The key to achieving the most amazing wedding hairstyle ever is creativity and thought. With careful consideration and practice, you can have the most unforgettable wedding hairstyle you ever imagined!

Black Hairstyles

There are many favorite black hair styles around like braided, locks, sleek and straight, curly, short and funky or twisted and intricate hairstyles. Whatever hairstyle you wish to choose, it is important to pay special attention to your facial features and bone structure. This is because some of the black hair styles can take your most beautiful facial features and make them even more stunning!

One thing to remember for the perfect black hair style is to take account of your build. For example, a close cropped black hairstyle does not suit one with a large frame. So remember to just make sure that your style and frame balance each other! The shape of the face too has to be taken into consideration when choosing the correct black hair style. Basically, there are five face shapes; oval, round, square, heart and rectangular. Whatever face shape you may have, it is better to choose a hair style that makes your face appear more oval. The reason the oval face is identified as the best facial shape is because of the perfect symmetry of some of the facial features it has, like the distance from the lips to the bottom of the chin.

If you do have a heart shaped face, you can make it appear more oval by positioning the weight of the black hairstyle at chin level. For those with round faces, it is best to minimize the cheekbones with some height in the bang. For square faces, it is better to have a hair style with short edges and texture directed towards the face. And for those with triangular shaped faces, more height and fullness should be present at the crown. With these generalized hints on black hair styles, you should go to a beauty parlor to get your hair cut accordingly!

Long Hairstyles

Long hairstyles usually work well with any hair type, be it straight, curly or wavy. However, it looks the best if the locks are medium-textured or thick. So it is better to skip the lengthy look if you have fine hair or a long and narrow face. Of course, the best hairstyles of long hair are those that use limited preparation time. The multiple ponytails style is a very popular long hairstyle.

The multiple ponytails style consists of three base ponytails, but it is possible to have more ponytails if interested! Once the basic style of three ponytails is mastered, which normally takes ten minutes, you can improvise on it! If you plan on just having three ponytails, newly washed hair is great; but if you plan to add knots or braids, it’s better to work with hair that is not so soft. The hair has to be brushed to remove knots and tangles. Then all the hair from the top of your crown has to be picked up and separated into three even sections. Some hair from the ears below has to be left loose to flow around your neck.

Each ponytail then has to be smoothened into separate mini-ponytails, and secured with either a hair bungee or elastic hair band. Once the basic multi-pony look has been achieved, you could use different braided or knotted styles. You could create multiple ponytails where no hair is left to flow down your back. Another choice is to have all the different ponytails coiled up and pinned on top of the crown to get a beautiful up-do of braids. You could also braid the center of the multi ponytails and leave the side ponytails unbraided. Then you could pin jeweled hairpins at the top of each ponytail, or experiment with different color scrunches to cover the elastic bands.

The variations with long hairstyles are endless. They are limited only by the amount time you invest in experimenting with different hair styles - and by your imagination.

Short Hairstyles For Women

Before choosing a short haircut you have to do a research between the short hairstyles. The beauty of the short hairstyles is that you can accommodate the shape to enhance or distract certain traits. So you have to be very careful in your choice. Some short hairstyles can make a round face seems enormou. Be sure that the hairstyle fits your face.

Other thing that you have to determine is whether the chosen hairstyle is adequate to your hair type. Every different type of hair has different flow and fall. Make sure that these elements are mixed well for your hairstyle.

Making appropriate short hairstyles is a sum of form, texture and hair products. Once your hair is short, the hair products will become your best friends because they will allow you to change the "feel" of the haircut. The hair grows at different speed and needs a regular cut to be maintained in perfect condition. Prepare for regular visits to the beauty salon and for more work and different skills to maintain your hair in perfect condition. The short hairstyles are not a license to be free of care. Be sure that you and your stylist are on the same wavelength.

You should be amazed by the incredible amount of hairstyles that can be achieved with a short haircut. There are many interpretations of the short hairstyles. You can take a smooth bob with long and asymmetrical bang and transform it into soft waves, using the proper technique.

The classic short and medium hairstyles are essential for women who love the classic look but also want to be modern and in style.

The very short hairstyles attract the attention to the eyes. They fit particularly well with narrow face, nice neck and beautiful skin. Styling tips: apply hair gel or mousse. Dry with a hair dryer or, if you have time, let it dry naturally. Once the hair has dried, apply a generous amount of wax and distributed equally throughout the hair. Style your hair as you like.

A soft wave at the top area creates texture and volume. You can try short hairstyles with volume and a short bang. For normal and thick hair apply mouse and let it dry naturally, the fine hair looks more texture when is used a hair dryer.

The bob hairstyle comes in different aspects and forms, and can be set to one side individually creating a single framework around the face. For more modern look try to keep your bob's tips flat, soften light or curls inwards. Do not think that the "bob" has to be always the same - the bang can be different, whether full, thrown to one side, or removed from the face using clips. You can update your look instantly with little effort.

All colors are appropriate, depending of the searching results. The dark colors are more expressive and vivid, the blond can be more impressive. The highlights must be very lightweight and must redo every 8 weeks. To select the appropriate hair color always consider your skin tone.

Victoria Beckham Hairstyles

Victoria Beckham's hairstyles always make the headlines- especially if she has changed her look.

Victoria has changed her style over the last 5 years many times. She started out with long curly hair - that she got from wearing hair extensions. This was a crazy stage for awhile where everyone wanted to get extensions to look like Victoria.

Then she shattered all ideas about hairstyle by getting all her hair cut off short. She started with a long version of the inverted bob hairstyle. Her hair was longer in the front and shorter in the back with tons of layers and height in the crown area.

The inverted aka shattered bob then morphed into a short pixie hairstyle, much like that of Halle Berry. It does look cute, but the longer styles seem to make her small features look better. She is so tiny and skinny that the pixie hairstyle doesn't do her any favors. Check out the latest Victoria Beckham Hairstyles

What Hair Color do you use?

I used to go to the salon every 4-6 weeks to get my hair colored. As time and money constraints kick in, these regular visits to the salon are not feasible.

I have experimented with just about every hair color brand on the market today. I would buy the ones that were on sale, the ones I had a coupon for, etc.

But the only brand that I get consistent results with is Preference by L'Oreal. I have used a natural version of the hair color and achieved very good results month after month.

What hair color product do you use? Have you used the same one for years? Leave your comments below.

Medium Hairstyles

When you are looking for a new hairstyle, it is a good idea to browse online and various magazines to find examples of hairstyles that you like.

There are so many different types of bangs available today-- short, choppy, long, layered, regular, straight, wispy, side swept and fringe. Your idea of bangs and your stylists' idea may be totally different.

Be prepared, bring a photo of the hairstyle you want.

Back to the point of this post--medium hairstyles. The medium length really is the most versatile option. You can still wear a ponytail, yet have other options that short hair does not.

On short to medium length hair, a simple and quick hairstyle may be to pin back your hair with some side combs. If you have more time, putting in some rollers the night before should give some pretty waves in your hair the next day that can be worn loose and also pinned back if required. When exercising or in a hurry, the classic ponytail is always a winner.

Another fast and quick hairstyle that you can do your self at home, is pigtails or also plaits. If you have more time, or another person handy, an elegant style that keeps the hair off the face is by doing a fishbone braid. You start this by plaiting the hair in the middle of the scalp, and adding an extra piece to all 3 sections of hair from the outside parts of the head, and then by joining it onto the middle plait.

If you're going out tonight and need a neat hairstyle, another easy one is the classic bun. This is a quick, classic and elegant hairstyle that can be achieved by tying the hair into a tight pony tail and wrapping the ponytail around and pinning the spiral of hair to the scalp.

Best Celebrity Hair Styles For Your Face

When you find a celebrity hair style that you really like, you must consider your hair texture and type. Even though you may have the same face shape as your favorite celebrity, that doesn’t mean that her hair style will work with your hair type. For example, some women cut layers into their hair only to find out later that they are unable to style the hair at all. It just falls flat, with no body. Hair texture encompasses the density, wave, movement and body of the hair. There are five basic categories of texture: Straight, Curly, Black, Fine, Chemically Treated and Coarse.

Straight Hair: This hair has no wave or curl. Straight hair typically has natural shine and body.

Curly Hair: This hair has a tighter S-shaped curl with lots of volume. Curly hair is high-maintenance and can appear dull-looking and frizzy. Help from leave-in conditioners and shine enhancers will help alleviate this problem.

Black Hair: This hair is usually dry, brittle and fine. Use of conditioning products and daily massage can gently promote health hair.

Fine Hair: This type of hair can look very lifeless soon after washing. Always use hair care products specially formulated for fine hair.

Chemically Treated: Many hair color processes can change the make up of your hair permanently. Always use shampoos/conditioners designed for colored hair. Also, check that the products contain sunscreen in them to protect your hair from damage caused by the sun.

Coarse Hair. This hair can look very wiry after shampooing. Use of leave-in conditioner to close and smooth the cuticle will help, along with regular deep-conditioning treatments.

To see what texture of hair you have, try threading one of your hairs through a sewing needle. If you have trouble threading it or the hair gets caught as you pull it through, then you have thicker hair such as curly or coarse. If the hair goes right through, then you probably have fine hair.

Hair type encompasses the condition of your scalp, the texture of your hair and how your hair reacts to the environment. There are four basic categories for hair type: Normal, Dry, Oily and Combination.

Normal: This type of hair is neither prone to oiliness or dryness.

Dry: This type of hair will look dull, lifeless and parched, even sometimes frizzy and straw-like.

Oily: This type of hair will look oily, dull and dirty along the whole hair shaft.

Combination: This type of hair will begin to show oiliness about 5-6 hours after washing, while the ends remain dry. This can be caused by the use overuse of conditioners and styling products or by humidity and pollution.

Up-Dos For Hairstyles

Up-do's have always been known as the classier category of the hairstyle race. It brings out your beautiful facial features and leaves less clutter around your face to distract you. Updos have always been the preferred choice to a wedding, anniversary or any other formal occasion for the simple reason that it brings out a kind of panache much needed for the formal event.

Short hairstyles have come in with a bang and more and more girls, ladies and older women are sinking into it and boy does that look good. Well it all depends on your stylist who can bring out a short hairdo to the curves of your head and your features. The Boy George cut is certainly not for everyone, but the number of short hairdos styles is phenomenal making it individualistic.

Now with your short hair how do you get an updo to a formal event? Well nothing is impossible. Updos for shag hairstyles vary from spiky to well set and gelled, curled or a half updo. Yes a half-updo is also a great option. Set the upper section of your hair with a partition that suits your face while the rest can just fall or be curled.

The half or full updo depends on your attire if you want to hide some aspects like broad shoulders or small neck. Chat with your stylist before you settle for any hairdo. These days with technology penetrating every segment of the industry there is ready software available where you can see your own self with the hairdo you prefer.

But don't stick to a particular hairdo just because it looks good on you. Soon you will be pigeon holed with your style so try a different style with your new dress or even the same dress for every occasion. Sometimes the effect of the hairdo comes to perfection when you are fully dressed and your grace and style adds to the hair art.

Hairstyles For Fine Hair

If you're having trouble finding great hairstyles for fine hair you're not alone! It can certainly be a bit of a challenge at times, but here are some tips to help you, and give you some guidance about what fine hair hairstyles are happening in 2007.

One thing that fine hair usually lacks is body, but the solution is a good, layered cut, as in some of the new pixie styles, which will add some body to fine hair. Layers add movement and this should make your hair flow. Movement minimizes the flat look that most women try to avoid.

Textured styles are good if you have fine hair, and most good stylists will have custom made texturing scissors to do this. Don't over blow dry fine hair it is all too easy to get split ends this way which will detract from the look you're trying to achieve.

With all the salon advice on TV and in the press you should be well aware by now that the use of a good product is an essential part of the process. Most professionals will tell you that a good hairstyle for fine hair relies on a boost from the right range of products. Volumizing shampoo can help, and volumizing mousse particularly is a must if you are to achieve a style that has bounce. But be careful with conditioner, too much and it can weigh down fine hair.

The new styles where the hair is cut shorter at the back and longer at the sides is a good style to try for fine hair. Victoria Beckham has adopted this type of crop and it really does give her hair some bounce. This style effectively adds movement to the hair and the texturing at the back adds the body your hair needs.

If you don't want your hair cropped then you might consider adding extra fullness with hair extensions. If you decide to do this then make sure that the hair used for the extensions is not too heavy, heavy hair extensions can pull on the roots of fine hair, making it thinner once the extensions are removed. Finally, take a look around the internet and you will find plenty of pictures of hairstyles for fine hair. We recommend the resource below, which enables you to "try on" lots of different hairstyles on your own photo, so you can quickly and easily see what works best for your fine hair! You can even print out the image of the hairstyle you prefer and take it to your hair stylist.

Hairstyles To Look Younger

It's a commonly held notion that as you get older, you should have shorter hair. The feeling seems to be that long hair makes mature women look older.

That doesn't have to be the case, however. The reality is finding the hairstyle that's going to make you look young is the one that looks best on you. That might not make sense. Let's look at this further.

Many older women can wear long hair and wear it successfully, but just as many can't. Why? Much has to do with the shape of your face as well as how you age. If you have a long face, as you get older, that long face can look longer and even perhaps more gaunt. If you are wearing long hair, that gaunt look can translate into an old look. In that case, your best bet would be to not wear your hair long. For you, it would be old looking.

Another woman, however, might be able to wear long hair better as she matures. This woman might have a round, even plump face. Perhaps she's got good genes and she's taken good care of her skin. She can maybe handle a little more length on her hair. And for some women, the longer hair can make them look younger.

So much depends on your skin, your face shape and how well your skin is aging (and it's important to be honest here).

Let's look at some popular hairstyles that look the best on aging women in general.

The 'bob" is a popular hairstyle for women of a wide array of ages, but it's particularly flattering to the aging population. Bobs can be short, just below the ear, or longer, even down to the shoulders. They can be perky, with many layers thrown in, or they can be simpler, with no layers and a straight styling.

Perhaps what makes the bob good for all ages, then, is its versatility. If you think that your face can still carry off the look of long hair but you don't have the time to style a long hairstyle, you can keep a longer bob. Know that your skin and face just don't tolerate a long hairstyle? Opt for a short bob with a few simple layers. Styling and upkeep are simple and fuss free.

The final consideration when thinking about hairstyles as we age is our hair condition.

Many women have gorgeous hair that looks healthy when they are 20 or 60, but many more of us have hair that ages with us. Perhaps it thins as we get older, or becomes a little more brittle. In that case, trying to pull off a long style just makes little sense. If the hair doesn't look healthy when it's long, then it makes you look old.

So much about our personal style is personal. That is, we are each unique and different and we must be honest with ourselves when we consider which clothes look the best on us, how much weight we need to lose or gain and how well our skin is aging. Finding the right hairstyle is no different. It takes a little experimentation, but it's worth the effort to find the right "young" hairstyle.

How To Find The Perfect Formal Hairstyle

Finding the right hairstyle for that special occasion can be a big chore. No matter whether it is your wedding day or a formal work party, looking your best is always your top priority and you pay just as much attention to your hair as you do your dress. So, how can you find perfect updos and formal styles to suit your individual personality and style of dress?

Probably the best place to start is online. There are literally hundreds of photo galleries dedicated to updos and formal hairstyles alone. By browsing these sites, you can find numerous styles and print them out so that you can share them with your stylist. All you need to do to find these photo galleries is perform a quick search for updos in your favorite search engine. Many of these sites also have how to articles to help you do your hair yourself at home.

Another great way to find unique formal styles is to browse through your salon’s style books and portfolios. In most salons, there are stylists that specialize in different updo techniques. A salon might have one stylist who can create amazing braided and basket weaved updos whereas another stylist may be able to create sleek timeless classics perfectly. By looking through a portfolio and seeing each stylist’s actual work, you can get a feel of whether or not their style would suit your preferences. And you can get a glimpse of signature styles that you cannot find anywhere else.

You can also find photos and how to articles in many magazines that are geared toward wedding preparations. Hair style magazines also come out with an updo issue occasionally.

Once you have found a good source of formal hairstyle photos, you need to narrow your choices down to a few favorites. When doing this, pay attention to the model’s hair. If she has extremely thick hair, you may not be able to achieve quite the same look if your hair is thin and fine and vice versa.

After you have narrowed down your choices, begin experimenting with the different styles by pulling your hair up in mock positions. Find one or two combinations that you think would look the best and take them to your hairdresser for a trial run.

Granted, finding a style this way rather than letting your stylist have his or her lead may take a little bit of time, but when you help in the planning process, you will ensure that you get a perfect formal do that will be the envy of the party.
